Located at the Phokhun Intersection, Phaya Mung Rai was the 25th king of the Lanna Kingdom, born to Phaya Lao Meng and Queen Thepkham Khai or Queen Aum Ming Chom Mueang in 1782 AD. He passed away in Chiang Mai in 1854 AD. His reign saw the establishment of Chiang Rai on Doi Thong, building upon the existing foundations of an earlier city in 1805 AD. Under his leadership, the region flourished, becoming a prosperous part of the Lanna Thai kingdom.
