Wat Sala Loi is a sacred site that has been deeply revered by the people of Nakhon Ratchasima for over 200 years. The story dates back to the time of Thao Suranari, also known as Ya Mo, who, after victorious battles in Thung Samrit, paused her army's journey back to Nakhon Ratchasima at Tha Tako. She ordered her soldiers to construct a raft shaped like a sala (pavilion) to float along the Lam Takhong River, making a heartfelt wish: wherever this raft may land, a temple would be established in its memory. The raft eventually came to rest on the right bank of the Lam Takhong, where a dilapidated temple once stood. As a result, the ubosot (ordination hall) was built, leading to the establishment of Wat Sala Loi as it stands today. This temple also houses the ashes of Thao Suranari. Visitors can pay their respects to the principal Buddha image and behold the sacred relics of the Buddha within the old ubosot. Additionally, they can admire the unique architectural style of the shrine, modeled like a traditional Chinese junk, decorated with Dong Khoi tiles. This temple continues to be a revered place of worship for the people of Nakhon Ratchasima to this day.
