Ang Thong Province is an ancient city with a long history dating back to the Dvaravati period. It boasts a unique cultural heritage in the form of local art and traditions, along with a wealth of invaluable legacies bestowed by our ancestors. Particularly notable is the flourishing of Buddhism here, leading to its designation as the "Land of Dharma." This is evident from the many historical temples scattered throughout the province. One such temple is Loh Suthawas, a small establishment located in the heart of Ang Thong that is over a hundred years old. It is believed to be connected to His Eminence Somdet Phra Puthacharn (To Phromrangsi), a revered monk of the Rattanakosin period. The temple's history tells that when Somdet Phra Puthacharn To constructed a large principal Buddha statue, known as Buddha Phim, at Wat Chaiyo Worawihan, a wealthy patron named "Loh," who was deeply devoted to Buddhism and revered Somdet, wished to build a temple on his own land. However, he was uncertain about where to appropriately locate it. Thus, the wealthy patron traveled to seek guidance from Somdet Phra Puthacharn To. Upon learning of his noble intentions, Somdet kindly determined the ideal location and auspicious timing for the temple's construction through a traditional method known as "Chab Yam Sam Ta," which involves meditation. Once the temple was completed, the wealthy patron Loh invited Somdet Phra Puthacharn To to impart teachings and officiate at the ceremony of pouring metal to cast a statue of him in a seated posture of "Chab Yam Sam Ta" on the day of the consecration ceremony. The people of Ang Thong hold deep faith in this statue of Somdet Phra Puthacharn To, believing in its sacredness and the miraculous experiences shared by those who have revered it. The accuracy of oracle predictions made through drawing lots has also gained widespread acclaim. Consequently, devotees regularly visit to pay their respects and seek blessings at the temple.
