Another ancient shrine in Phuket, with a history spanning over a century, is the Put Jor Shrine, also known as the Put Jor Temple. What sets this shrine apart from others is its enshrinement of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, or the Put Jor Guanyin, an important deity in Mahayana Buddhism that many people come to pay respects to. Additionally, this shrine is renowned for its healing practices through divination using fortune sticks, a tradition that has spread through word of mouth. This unique characteristic of the shrine is something truly rare to find. The legend of the shrine has been passed down through generations, stating that the area where the shrine is located was once a large canal capable of accommodating large ships, which included a port and the shrine itself. In those days, locals referred to this shrine as "Te Joon Shrine" or "Guan Yu." A merchant, sailing in a three-masted ship from Penang to trade in Phuket, brought along a wooden carving of the Bodhisattva Guanyin Put Jor. Upon seeing the shrine's surroundings, he felt an affinity for the place and saw it as a fitting site, thus he enshrined the Put Jor Guanyin there. Over time, it became known as the Put Jor Shrine. Location: Mueang District, Phuket Province.
