Sukhothai Historical Park

Sukhothai Historical Park covers the ancient Sukhothai area. The administrative center of the Sukhothai Kingdom, which had power in the lower northern region of Thailand during the 18th-19th Buddhist centuries, was located at Mueang Kao Subdistrict. (Municipality of Mueang Kao Subdistrict), Mueang Sukhothai District Sukhothai Province Away from the current city of Sukhothai. (Sukhothai Thani municipality) to the west for about 12 kilometers along Highway No. 12 (Jarot Withi Thong Road). Sukhothai city plan is rectangular in shape. It is about 2 kilometers long and about 1.6 kilometers wide, with city gates in the middle of the city walls on each side. Inside there are traces of palaces and 26 temples, the largest of which is Wat Mahathat. The park has been restored by the Fine Arts Department with help from UNESCO. Hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. which can be visited on foot or by bicycle Sukhothai Historical Park was first declared protected by the announcement of the Royal Gazette, Volume 92, Chapter 112, dated 2 August 1961. Later, in 1976, the restoration project of the park was approved. And officially opened in July 1988. On December 12, 1991, UNESCO announced this park to be a World Heritage Site together with the historical parks at Kamphaeng Phet and Si Satchanalai under the name. "Sukhothai Historical City and its Suburbs"
