Khao Kho Relics Pagoda

Khao Kho Subdistrict, Khao Kho District.

The exquisite architecture of this stupa reflects a harmonious blend of Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, and Rattanakosin artistic styles, maintaining a unique design concept characteristic of northern Buddhist sites. Inside, a Buddha statue is enshrined for public veneration. The stupa's pinnacle houses the relics of the Buddha, which were graciously brought from Sri Lanka by His Majesty the King for the local populace after the cessation of hostilities with the communists in Thailand. This serves as a poignant reminder of the area's tumultuous past, where internal conflicts led to significant loss of life. The design of this stupa features a square base with a twelve-cornered layout, while the upper tier adopts an octagonal shape, a characteristic style dating back to the Dvaravati period. The stupa towers at a height of 69 yards, symbolizing the King's 69 years of age, while its base spans 39 yards, representing the year 1996 in the Buddhist calendar. Located on Khao Kho, in Phetchabun Province, the stupa is positioned along Highway 2196, approximately 2 kilometers north of the Khao Kho District Office.
