The Chai Nat Muni National Museum was established through the interests of Phra Chai Nat Muni (Nuam Sutatto), the former abbot of Wat Phra Boromthat Worawihan and the former head of the Chai Nat province. He collected a significant number of art and archaeological artifacts found in the Chai Nat province and its surrounding areas, preserving them at the temple's museum. Later on, Phra Chai Nat Muni generously donated these art and historical treasures to become national assets for the benefit of education in Thai history and archaeology. In 1966, the Fine Arts Department began constructing a museum building near Wat Phra Boromthat Worawihan, naming it the Chai Nat Muni National Museum in honor of Phra Chai Nat Muni. The museum has been open to the public since 1969, allowing visitors to explore and appreciate the rich cultural heritage and history of the region.
