It is an ancient site within the walls of Sukhothai Historical Park, located near the main gate of the royal court, on the northern side of the city. The archaeological site inside Wat Sarakhatt contains a main chedi and a vihara. The main chedi is a type of Lanna-style stupa that has been popular since the Sukhothai era, characterized by its circular shape and surrounded by elephants at the base. This design stems from the belief that elephants are noble creatures, serving as the royal steeds of emperors, and are deemed worthy guardians of Buddhism, ensuring its endurance for 5,000 years.
