Monument of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great

Monument of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great

Sukhothai Historical Park, Old Town.

This monument was built as a royal tribute to Phra Khun Ramkhamhaeng the Great, a king from the Sukhothai era known for his immense benevolence and remarkable abilities. His contributions include the invention of the Thai script, a paternal governance system, and the promotion of a peaceful and prosperous society. Within the grounds, there is a replica of the stone inscription number 1, which marks the origin of the Thai language still in use today. The time of Phra Khun Ramkhamhaeng the Great can certainly be considered the golden age of Sukhothai.

Province: Sukhothai
