Sa Morakot Archaeological Site

Khok Peep Subdistrict, Si Maha Phot District.

Sri Mohosot is a district in Prachinburi Province, previously known as Krok Pib. This ancient city boasts a history exceeding 1,200 years, tracing back to the 6th Buddhist century. Once a vital coastal port, it served as a central hub for the arts, culture, traditions, and Buddhism. Sri Mohosot was a significant ancient city that flourished in cultural development since before the 11th Buddhist century. Due to its status as a coastal trading port, it actively engaged in commerce, exchanging goods with both China and India, and absorbed cultural influences from Funan. Archaeological evidence reveals the discovery of numerous Funan and Roman-style beads dating from 600 to 800 AD. Additionally, various sculptures depicting animals in the Amaravati style from the 7th to 9th Buddhist centuries have been found in the Kaew and Kwan ponds. This makes Sri Mohosot another remarkable ancient city with a rich and extensive history.
