The rich history of Prachinburi, which dates back to the Dvaravati period, is evident through the discovery of this ancient Buddha statue, housed in the pavilion in front of the Si Mahosot district office. This statue is revered by the locals as the guardian of Si Mahosot. Known as Phra Phuttha Dvaravati, this standing Buddha, made from sandstone, stands 163 cm tall and was crafted by early Dvaravati artisans. Its design reflects the Indian artistic style of the Gupta dynasty, dating back to the 11th to 13th Buddhist centuries, making it over a thousand years old. The discovery of Phra Phuttha Dvaravati occurred on a mound outside of Si Mahosot, previously known as Khok Pib, in the eastern part of a leprosy settlement. Patients, while farming in the area, unearthed the statue. Initially, the statue was intact, and it was placed in the pavilion of the district office. However, a fire in 1996 caused partial damage to the statue. The Fine Arts Department subsequently restored it, preserving its beauty to what we see today.
