Paying homage at the City Pillar Shrine of Chachoengsao, which was constructed in 1834 during the reign of King Rama III. This sacred pillar is believed to house the spirit of protection, safeguarding the city and its people from the dangers of war and calamity. At that time, Thailand was embroiled in a conflict with Vietnam, and Chachoengsao served as a critical frontline city to defend the capital from invasion. The construction of the city wall coincided with that of the city pillar. Later, during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, the original city pillar fell into disrepair. It was then replaced by a mighty rosewood pillar, accompanied by rituals to honor and consecrate it on July 14, 1895. However, the structure of the original City Pillar Shrine was modest and lacked grandeur for its significance, leading to the construction of a new shrine in 1997. On June 3, 1999, His Majesty the King graciously appointed His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn to preside over the consecration ceremony of the new shrine, marking another important chapter in the history of this revered site.
