Khao Kho National Park boasts a rich biodiversity, featuring a variety of plant and animal species along with stunning natural attractions such as waterfalls, caves, islands, rapids, cliffs, scenic viewpoints, and historical sites from the long-lasting conflict between the government and communist insurgents, which has now come to a peaceful end. Today, a monument has been erected to honor the sacrifices of those who lost their lives during the conflict, with names inscribed for remembrance. Village or bridge names often serve to memorialize these brave individuals. The beautiful Khao Kho Palace was constructed as a tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of Their visit to Khao Kho in Phetchabun, serving as a residence during their stay. The forests of Khao Kho National Park consist of both natural and planted forests, with over 50 percent being reforested areas. The predominant types include mixed deciduous forests (excluding teak), oak forests, moist evergreen forests, and grasslands. The park is home to several economically valuable species such as rubber trees, teak, rosewood, milled timber, pines, medicinal herbs, and various wild orchids. These forest ecosystems provide habitat, food, and shelter for diverse wildlife including wild elephants, tigers, wild boar, barking deer, porcupines, wild rabbits, macaques, civets, monitor lizards, wild chickens, and various types of snakes. Additionally, over 100 bird species and a rich variety of butterflies can be found, contributing to the park’s ecological vibrancy.
